Coal fly ash sludge disaster on Emory River/Watts Bar Lake, Kingston Fossil Plant

On December 22, 2008, approximately 5.4 million cubic yards of toxic coal fly ash spilled into the Emory River/Watts Bar Lake after Dike C failed at TVA’s Kingston Fossil Plant in Roane County, Tennessee. Cleanup continues over a year after the retention pond wall collapsed.
